Thorne in Mason's side

Wayne Thorne beat Smirnoff leader Jack Mason 5-4 to sit just 2 points back from his Shootpool Snipers teammate with two matches in hand.

A break & dish in the sixth couldn't help Jack avoid defeat as the clash between the teammates all nine frames go with break.

Jack played a second match, quickly moving into a 3-0 lead against Elliot Riley before a fightback from Elliot saw him win the next four on the bounce to lead 4-3.

Jack recovered to stop the rot by winning the eighth to level the match at 4-4 and then produced a strong frame to seal the 5-4 win in the all important final frame.

The results leave Jack 2 points ahead of his teammate and rival Wayne who sits in fourth place with two matches in hand in the race for the title.

Last week's leader Jules Wyborn drops one place this week, just a single point behind Jack, after losing 5-4 to Richard Ilsley.

Jules won the opening two frames before Richard took three of the next four to see the match all square after six frames.

The seventh frame went to Jules to see him back in front by a frame but a brace at the end saw Richard home as the victor, a result that leaves him with four wins from four on the season.

A double win for Dan Dalton saw him move level on points with Jules into third place, albeit having played two matches more.

Dan never trailed in either match, first beating Sonia Hooton 5-4 before winning four of the first five frames on route to a 6-3 victory over Sue Latham.

Sonia followed that match with a 5-4 defeat of Amber Carter, winning four of the last six frames, including the final pair, to seal victory.

Amber also played a second match on the afternoon, suffering a 6-3 loss to her Shootpool Spitfires teammate Sue Latham, with Sue wining the opening five frames in the match.

And the last match of the afternoon saw Elliot Riley defeat Ryan May, winning four straight frames when the match was poised 2-2 to seal the win.

Looking ahead to next week's fixtures, they are the last scheduled round of the season, but with eleven postponed matches still outstanding it is unlikely the season will finish this weekend as the end of season deadline is a month later on the 25th June when the top flight Grey Goose finishes.

In the scheduled matches, leader Jack Mason faces Sue Latham whilst second placed Jules Wyborn plays Elliot Riley with Jules winning 6-3 when these two met last season. The two remaining unbeaten players on the season, both from Shootpool Snipers, are in action as Wayne Thorne faces Ryan May and Richard Ilsley plays Sonia Hooton. And the last match of the afternoon sees Amber Carter take on Maria Lewis with Maria having won their only prior Shootpool Blackball Singles League encounter 7-2 back in Smirnoff although Amber did defeat her opponent 3-0 on route to winning the 2014 - 2015 AIPL Ladies Singles title.
