Smirnoff title race thrown wide open

26 May 2017 23:00:00 Posted By Felix

Only three matches were played in Smirnoff this weekend but they threw the title race wide open after leader Jack Mason lost twice on the afternoon.

Up first against Sue Latham, Jack was on the hill at 4-2 but a superb fightback from Sue saw her win the final three frames to seal a 5-4 victory.

And in his second match of the afternoon, against Sue's Shootpool Spitfires teammate Sonia Hooton, Jack saw a 2-1 lead quickly turn into a 4-2 deficit after Sonia won three successive frames to move into a strong lead.

Sonia clinched the win in the eighth as the last three frames all went with break to see it finish 5-4.

The last played match of the afternoon saw second placed Jules Wyborn defeat Elliot Riley 5-4, with a break & dish in the seventh putting him on the hill.

Jules wrapped up in the win in the very next frame with the set of results leaving Jules 4 points behind the leader with two matches in hand and Jack having played all of his matches already.

Amber Carter was awarded her match against Maria Lewis 7-0 after her opponent failed to show, Maria's second no show in as many weeks.

There are no more scheduled matches in Smirnoff, but with twelve postponed matches still to be rescheduled, nothing in the division has been decided yet.

And a reminder that all those outstanding matches must be played by the end of Sunday 25th June 2017 as that is the end of this Shootpool Blackball Singles League season.
