Season 5 of Smirnoff in the Shootpool Blackball Singles League begins this weekend with the fixtures getting underway from 4pm.

This year the division features 11 players, 5 returning from Smirnoff last season, 2 relegated down from Grey Goose, 1 player returning to the league after a season's absence and three league newcomers.

The returning players are led by Sue Latham who has been an ever-present in this division throughout the previous seasons of the Shootpool Blackball Singles League.

Amber Carter is back for her fourth season having missed just the inaugural season.

Dan Dalton also returns for his fourth season, his third in this division having made his debut in Grey Goose in Season 2.

Elliot Riley returns for his third season whilst Ryan May is back for his second having made his debut last season.

The SPBL ever-present Mike Collins is back in this division for the first time since Season 1, after finishing that season as runner-up and playing in Grey Goose for the last three season before relegation last season.

Season 3 Smirnoff champion Max Burgess was the second player relegated following last season and is back for his fourth SPBL league campaign.

Mark Tumilty returns to the Shootpool Blackball Singles League after a one season gap with his best prior finish being third place back in Season 1.

And the division is rounded out by three league newcomers - Laura Hunter, Mark Frost and Trevor Gunn.

Looking at the opening day's fixtures, Amber Carter and Elliot Riley face one another in the only match to feature two returning players from the division last season, with Amber having won both prior Smirnoff meetings - 6-3 last season and 5-4 in Season 3. Mike Collins plays Mark Tumilty having also won both previous SPBL encounters - 6-3 in Smirnoff in Season 1 and 5-4 in Grey Goose in Season 2. The other three matches all see the league newcomers in action as Trevor Gunn faces Max Burgess, Laura Hunter plays Sue Latham and Mark Frost faces Ryan May.

Looking further into the season, Week 3 sees the first clash between two league newcomers when Mark Frost and Laura Hunter face each other.

Week 5 on 12th November brings not only the match between the two relegated players in Max Burgess versus Mike Collins, it will also feature the two highest finishing returning players from last season as Sue Latham (5th place) faces Dan Dalton (4th place).
