Shelley hands Feore second defeat of Grey Goose season

03 October 2017 20:45:00 Posted By Felix

Last season's runner-up Shelley McDermott beat defending champion David Feore 5-4 to see the champion slip to his second defeat in as many matches at the start of the new Grey Goose season.

The two players were separated by just two points last season in the race for the title and a masterclass of pool from Shelley this weekend saw him produce four single visit clearances, including break & dishes in the first and last frames, as he didn't miss a shot in the entire nine frames.

Feore produced two single visit clearances of his own but ran into a player in form with Shelley having won Week 1 of the new Big League competition at Shoot Pool & Snooker the evening before.

As mentioned prior, that was Feore's second defeat of the season having lost 5-4 to Daniel Wilkins despite holding leads of 2-0 and 4-1 in the only opening day match that was played.

Two other matches were played this weekend, with both involving league debutants, as Colin Rogan fought back from 1-0 and 3-2 down to beat Peter Ward 6-3 and Jamie Whittaker won the opening five frames on route to beating Adam Jackow 7-2.

Looking ahead to next week's fixtures, three players are still to play their first match of the season. Two previous title winners with clash as Darryl Clarke looks to start his campaign against David Feore, Richard Ilsley will begin against second placed Jamie Whittaker and James Connor gets underway against Daniel Wilkins. Two SP Blacks teammates will clash as Adam Jackow and Peter Ward face one another. And the last match of the afternoon sees Shelley McDermott play Colin Rogan.

Next week's fixtures in full, to be played on 15th October at 3:00pm
