Blacks beat Sharks to Stay Top of Prem

SP Blacks kept their position at the top of The Premier division, and maintained their 100% record, with an important 8-4 win against third placed Shootpool Sharks. New Zealand "B" are also 100% still, and only two points behind in second, after they won 8-4 away from home against The Brick Slayers. New Zealand 'A' remain in fourth place, despite slipping to a 7-5 defeat against 8th placed The Roths. The Swan are up to fifth after a solid 9-3 away win against bottom side Top John, and Honey Bee Stingerz stay in 9th despite picking up a 7-5 victory against 6th placed Shootpool 'A'.

SP Blacks 8-4 Shootpool Sharks

SP Blacks are still top of the Premier, and maintained their 100% record, with an decent 8-4 win against third placed Shootpool Sharks. A win for David Feore and a break and dish from Chris Mottau put Shootpool Sharks 2-0 up, but SP Blacks soon turned the match around, winning the next five frames, thanks to two wins for Mike Chappell, and wins for Andy Taylor, Adam Jackow and captain Peter Ward. Shootpool Sharks' Steve Dutton pulled it back to 5-3. but wins for Dave Green and Martin Langley were followed by a second win for Adam as SP Blacks moved 8-3 up. Robert Mutch did win the last frame for Shootpool Sharks, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

The Brick Slayers 4-8 New Zealand "B"

New Zealand "B" are also 100% still, and only two points behind in second, after they won 8-4 away from home against The Brick Slayers. Keith Jones and Doug Campbell both gave New Zealand "B" an early lead, but The Brick Slayers equalised twice through Lars Bjart and Andrew Holmes. Wins for Jamie Whittaker, Paul Kanchanlall and Larry Baker, plus a second win on the night for Keith, saw New Zealand "B" move into a controlling 6-2 lead. A win for Jason Hoff and and second for Andrew did close the gap to just 6-4, but second wins on the night for Paul and Jamie secured the 8-4 win for New Zealand "B".

New Zealand 'A' 5-7 The Roths

New Zealand 'A' remain in fourth place, despite slipping to a 7-5 defeat against The Roths, who stay in 8th place. The first half saw both sides take in the lead, with John Hamer, Vince King and Rory Sore all won for The Roths, while Tommy Gibson, Dennis Walton and Brian Lopez all replied for New Zealand 'A'. Second wins on the night for Rory and John put The Roths 5-3 up, before James Chilton won to halve the deficit. Neil Roberts then won to put The Roths one frame from victory, but Dennis then won his second to keep New Zealand 'A''s chance of a draw alive. But Stuart Ladyman won the final frame to complete the 7-5 win for The Roths.

Top John 3-9 The Swan

The Swan are up to fifth after a solid 9-3 away win against bottom side Top John. After David Gray gave The Swan the lead, Top John found themselves 2-1 up when Max Burgess and Andy Philbey both won. But two wins for Luke Butler, a second win for David and a win each for Colin Rogan and Paul Mart soon took The Swan into a 6-2 lead and on the verge of victory. Max did then win his second of the night for Top John for 6-3, but wins late on for Daniel Marshall and Dan McIntyre, plus a second for Paul saw The Swan run out 9-3 winners.

Honey Bee Stingerz 7-5 Shootpool 'A'

Honey Bee Stingerz stay in 9th place,but did pick up their first win of the season with a 7-5 victory against 6th placed Shootpool 'A'. Paul Seastram gave Honey Bee Stingerz the lead, only for Chris Eley to equalise. Honey Bee Stingerz then went 3-1 thanks to wins for Jimmy Surguy and Jeremy Collins. Shootpool 'A' did then come back into the match as wins for James Connor and Richard Herring levelled the match, before a second for Chris put them 4-3 up. But Honey Bee Stingerz claimed the win when they won the next four frames through Nick Tilley, Gary East, as well as second wins for Jeremy and Paul. Richard Herring did keep his own personal 100% intact by winning the final frame, but the match had already gone by that point.

Looking Ahead...

The league breaks for two weeks for the First Round of the AIPL Singles to take place, but when the league resumes, there are a couple of massive games in the AIPL Premier. First up, the top two sides face off as New Zealand "B" host leaders SP Blacks. with only two points between them, and with both sides on 4/4 this season. Also, 3rd faces 4th as Shootpool Sharks host New Zealand 'A', with both sides looking to bounce back from defeat last time out. 5th placed The Swan are at home against The Brick Slayers, who have drawn three of their matches already this season, meanwhile 6th placed Shootpool 'A' will host bottom side Top John. Finally, 8th placed Honey Bee Stingerz will play host to 9th placed Honey Bee Stingerz.
