Premier leaders SP Blacks made it six wins in six matches this season with a decent 9-3 home win against 9th placed side New Zealand 'A'. The visitors actually started well, as Dennis Walton reverse dished in the first frame for 1-0, and they were also 2-1 up, but that was the peak, as after that, SP Blacks came back strong, and won eight out of the next nine frames to claim the victory, with Tye Edwards, Andy Taylor and Adam Jackow all winning twice of the night for the league leaders.
Second placed New Zealand "B" are five points off the leaders, but they racked up their 5th straight win in the Premier this week as they were 7-5 winners against Shootpool 'A', who fall to 7th with the defeat. New Zealand "B" were looking at a big win when they raced into a 4-1 lead, but Shootpool 'A' kept at it and won some later frames to keep the deficit down to a minimum. There was two wins each for New Zealand "B" pair Doug Campbell and Keith Jones, with Richard Ilsley winning twice in reply for Shootpool 'A'.
3rd placed Shootpool Sharks made it five wins in six matches, and kept in touch with the top two after a 7-5 away win over venue rivals SP Bullets, who drop to 5th place in the table. SP Bullets started well, taking 2-0 and 3-1 leads early on, but Shootpool Sharks won the next four frames to take control of the tie, and got over the win line when Martin Langley and Robert Mutch won their second frames of the match in the second half.
The Rothschild Arms kept up their recent resurgent form and moved up to 4th place after they were 7-5 victors over Honey Bee Stingerz, who fall to 8th. The hosts didn't have it all their own way though, as Honey Bee Stingerz flew into an early 4-0 lead, but two wins for George Langley helped The Rothschild Arms get back to just 4-3 down. A second win on the night for Tim White made it 5-3 to Honey Bee Stingerz, but The Rothschild Arms fought back and won the final four frames without reply to snatch the victory and make it three games unbeaten.
The final match of the week saw The Brickslayers win for the second week in a row to move up into 6th place, after they won 8-4 against bottom side The Vic Club. Like so many games this week, this involved a comeback of sorts as The Vic Club found themselves 3-1 up early on, but The Brickslayers won seven of the remaining eight frames, which included two each for Lars Bjart and Andy Hutchinson, to claim the victory, with the one frame in reply was Steve Crutch winning his second of the match for The Vic Club.
The league takes a break next week, with the AIPL Doubles taking centre stage, but when the league returns in December, 4 of the top 5 are away from home, and it's top vs bottom as the league leaders SP Blacks face an away trip to take on bottom side The Vic Club, with the next two teams in the league also facing off, as 2nd placed New Zealand "B" travel to take on 3rd placed Shootpool Sharks. 4th placed The Rothschild Arms will be looking to keep up their recent good form when they travel to take on 7th placed Shootpool 'A', and 5th placed SP Bullets will be looking to bounce back as they face 9th placed New Zealand 'A' away. Finally, 6th placed The Brickslayers host 8th placed Honey Bee Stingerz.
