The Vic Club are the opening week leaders of Division 1 after they came away from their opening fixture with an 8-4 away win over newly-promoted Ari Potters. After the first four frames were shared, The Vic Club then won the next four to take command of the match. A second win on the night for Ari Potters' Nathan Davis kept the home side in it, but late second wins for both Mikie Gibson and Steve Crutch made sure of the win for The Vic Club
Hot Shots 7-5 Weavers' Beavers & Balls
The other two newly-promoted teams in the division, Hot Shots and Weavers' Beavers & Balls, faced off in the first week, as Hot Shots claimed a 7-5 home win against Weavers' Beavers & Balls. Hot Shots raced into a 3-0 lead early on, and wrapped the game up in the second half with two wins each for Stephen Coultas, Owen Garland and Ed McBrearty. Weavers' Beavers & Balls fought back though, to keep the deficit down to a minimum, with late second wins for both Adam Knight and Zenya Heap.
Kennedy GC 5-7 Shootpool Blues
After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, Shootpool Blues would have wanted to get off to a good start, and they got that with a 7-5 away win against Kennedy GC. It was a close match throughout, with Shootpool Blues just keeping ahead throughout, but with Kennedy GC keeping the match close too. Shootpool Blues led 6-5 going in to final frame, but it was debutant Nick Tilley who won that final frame, his second of the evening, to win the match for the visitors.
The Roths also opened up their campaign with a 7-5 win, at home against Wonky Newy. The Roths took a 3-0 lead early on, and led 6-2 at one stage, before a second win on the night for Neil Roberts wrapped up the win in frame 10. Wonky Newy did come back towards the end, winning three of the final four frames, but it wasn't quite enough to avoid defeat.
And the popular 7-5 continued to the final match of the week as well, as Top John secured an away win in their opener against Dairy Maid 'A'. The hosts started well, taking a 2-0 lead, before Top John took over, winning the next four. Second wins for Dairy Maid 'A' pair Nick Wootton and Grant Mullender got the hosts back in to the match, but second wins for Mark Kane, Jack Seaton and Jordan Maxwell Hoff secured the win for Top John late in the second half.
Looking Ahead...
The big match of Week 2 sees The Vic Club travel to take on Shootpool Blues, after both teams started with wins in the opening week. Also looking to continue winning form are Top John, who travel to Ari Potters, Hot Shots, who host Kennedy GC, and The Roths, who are also at home against Weavers' Beavers & Balls. The final game sees Dairy Maid 'A' host Wonky Newy, with both sides looking for their first wins of the season after opening week defeats.
