LEAGUE NOTE: Kennedy GC have dropped out of the league. Due to this action being taken within the first half of the season, the results from the first four gameweeks have unfortunately been removed from the website completely, as per the AIPL constitution. Those sides yet to face Kennedy GC this season will now have a bye on the week they were scheduled to play, as will every Div 1 team in the second half of the season.
The battle at the top of the table in Division 1 saw Shootpool Blues maintain their 100% start to the season, and in the process claim an 8-4 away win over previously-unbeaten The Roths, who drop to third with the defeat. After the two sides finished the first half level at 3-3, Shootpool Blues won the next five frames to claim the victory, a run that included second wins on the night for the trio of Ali Munro, Frank Almeida, and Nick Tilley.
Top John moved up to 2nd place in the table, and are just a point from the leaders, albeit after playing a game more, after they also won 7-5 away from home, winning against Wonky Newy, who stay in 6th place. Top John raced into a 4-0 lead early on, and second wins for Max Burgess, Jack Seaton and Danny Corcoran kept up the winning in the second half, before Wonky Newy won three of the final four frames to keep the defeat down to a minimum.
The Vic Club kept up the run of away victories in the division this week, after they won 7-5 against 7th placed Weavers' Beavers & Balls to move up to 4th place in the table. The Vic Club took the lead several times in the first half, but Weavers' Beavers & Balls kept fighting back level, up until 4-4. A second for Nigel Frost put The Vic Club 5-4 up, before Adam Knight's second equalised yet again. But The Vic Club won the final two frames, including a second of the match for Mikie Gibson, to claim the narrow win.
Hot Shots were the only team to claim a home victory in Division 1 this week, claiming the 7-5 home win over Dairy Maid 'A', who drop to 5th with the defeat. The match started well enough for the visitors, who led 4-1 at one point. but Hot Shots won the next five frames to take over, a run that included two wins for Stephen Coultas. Nick Wootton then won his second to give Dairy Maid 'A' the chance of claiming a draw, but a second of the night for Hot Shots captain Tracy Playford secured the win for her side.
After the Kennedy GC dropping out, the league table looks a little different in Division 1, but Week 6 sees the top two enjoy home matches against bottom half sides, as league leaders Shootpool Blues play host to 6th placed Wonky Newy, and 2nd placed Top John are at home against 7th placed Weavers' Beavers & Balls. 3rd placed The Roths travel to 5th placed Dairy Maid 'A', with both sides looking to get back to winnign ways after recent defeats, and finally, 8th plays 9th as Ari Potters host Hot Shots. The Vic Club have the bye due to the recent drop-out.
